Transforming Waste In Dumfries & Galloway

Transforming Waste In Dumfries & Galloway

Waste is an inevitable by-product of day-to-day business operations. From manufacturers, construction and demolition companies to hairdressers, restaurants and retailers, all businesses produce waste of some description.

Understanding how to manage your business waste can be challenging as owners and managers are faced with changing legislation and increasing pressure to reduce their environmental impact through the responsible disposal of waste.

A circular economy is part of the solution to our global climate emergency – one in which products, services and systems are designed to maximise their value and minimise waste.

To achieve this, businesses rely on specialist waste management companies to provide guidance and expertise on waste disposal and recycling best practice. And nobody knows waste better than the waste recycler, The NWH Group.

We are a second-generation family business who work with the industry and our customers to transform waste into a valuable resource – minimising waste and maximising value.

Following our acquisition of the business and assets of Dumfries-based Armstrong Waste Management (the waste management division of the Armstrong Group) earlier this year, we have been forging ahead with expanding our waste services across the whole of Dumfries and Galloway. From our Glasgow Road site, we provide commercial and domestic skip hire, trade waste services and materials recycling from its undercover facility.

What is trade waste? Also known as business or commercial waste, trade waste refers to any rubbish produced by a commercial activity.

We employ 16 local staff at our Dumfries depot – including drivers, office staff, and the site manager, Kris – bringing a wide range of knowledge and expertise that is further supported by the wider team totalling around 300 employees across Scotland and northern England.

The business recently invested £2.5m in a state-of-the-art, construction and demolition waste processing plant featuring the most up to date waste screening and separation technology to sort through construction and demolition waste more effectively, enabling it to capture 15% more material for recycling. The new plant, which has been operational since October, has the potential to save 20,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste from going into landfill each year. This investment ensures that NWH Group will have the most cutting-edge facility in Scotland and underpins its vision to eliminate waste to landfill.

On our mission to eliminate waste, we provides waste collection services to the leisure, retail, commercial, industrial and construction industries. Collecting waste with our fleet of trade refuse, skip, tipper, grab and walking floor articulated vehicles, transporting materials to our recycling facilities where it is transformed into high value products such as cardboard, paper, washed sands, biomass for energy and animal bedding.

If you need help with your trade waste and recycling, or if you need commercial or domestic skip hire, find out more here or talk to the team in Newton Road Industrial Estate, Glasgow Road, Dumfries calling 03333 20 4000.
