Meet the team: Barry Horton

Lets meet another member of our amazing team! Meet Barry Horton one of our fabulous Business Development Managers covering  Newcastle and the surrounding area! Read on to find out about Barry's 10 months with The NWH Group and which senior members job he would love to steal for a day. 

 

Tell us your name, job title and how long you've been with The NWH Group.

Hi! My name is Barry Horton, I am a Business Development Manager at the NWH Group and have been working here for 10 months.

 

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy walking with my English Springer Spaniel (Beau)

 

Where are you from and where do you live now?

I’m originally from Penshaw and now live in Bournmoor.

 

What would you recommend doing in your hometown? What’s the highlights?

There is a Greek Acropolis built on top of Penshaw Hill, it is called Penshaw Monument, The National Trust own it now and once a month you can go up one of the columns via a narrow staircase to the top.

 

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

The Maldives. I went there 10 years ago, and I actually cried when I had to leave.

 

Tell us a fact about yourself that would surprise people.

I am quite quiet and shy with people who I do not know well.

 

What was your first job? And your worst job?

My first Job was Gurteen Transport, and worst Job, The Durham Company.

 

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

I once tried raw oyster, never again!!

 

What’s your favourite thing about your role?

My favourite things are gaining new business and looking after my clients.

 

What does a typical workday look like for you and what are your main duties at NWH?

I start at 7.30pm, look for new customers to deal with, make contact, send quotations, email account applications, and follow the procedure through. I also liaise with Newcastle depot regarding availability of Skip & Rolonof types for my customers. And now Covid restrictions are easing, I’m getting out to visit clients face to face.

 

If you could swap roles with anyone at NWH for a day, who would it be and why?

I would like to swap with Mark Williams, to find out what the responsibility is like to run a multimillion-pound business.

 

What three words would you use to describe NWH?

Challenging, Dynamic, Exciting.

 

Tell us your NWH highlight.

Finding out that Newcastle Depot is now the busiest of all NWH depots for Skips and Rolonofs. We have all put in a lot of hard work to achieve this.

 

Coffee or tea? Milk in first or last?

I drink strong black coffee topped up with a little cold water, I don’t like tea and milk.

 

What three items would you bring on a desert island?

My Wife, My English Springer Spaniel (Beau aka BoBo) and my Bruce Springsteen live bootleg collection.
