The NWH Group delivers record-year

We are thrilled to announce record results for the latest financial year. We have achieved a turnover of £52.2m in the year to 30 September 2023; an increase of 6% on the £49.2m delivered in 2022. Despite a challenging economic environment, the resilient FY23 trading performance produced our highest revenue and profit to date.

Our trade waste division, which provides recycling services to retail, hospitality, industrial and leisure industries continued to expand with consistently strong customer service differentiating us from the competition. In a sluggish market impacted by the downturn in construction and demolition activity, the collection, processing and disposal activity grew significantly in the year; a laser focus on operational efficiencies consistently drove margin improvement. We are also reported strong returns from the new aggregate wash plant and existing processing capabilities in Edinburgh, Dundee, Angus, Midlothian and Glasgow.

There is no doubt that the end of the calendar year 2023 and the start of 2024 has been extremely difficult for everyone at The NWH Group following the untimely passing of the Group CEO, and family member Mark Williams. He led and grew the business and family with unparalleled knowledge, force of personality, commitment and purpose for more than 20 years.

Nairn Black, Finance Director at The NWH Group, said: “Mark’s passing has undoubtedly left a huge void in the business. But under the stewardship of the senior management team that Mark established, we are well-positioned to build on the robust trading performance in 2023.
Despite the continued uncertain economic climate, the diversity of our sectors and geographies coupled with our strong service offering and significant volume of repeat business, puts us in a strong position to facilitate further growth.”

“We know Mark would have wanted us to keep driving the business forward, and for us to make him proud, and that is what we are committed to doing.”

Looking forward, we have already secured several large contracts which will underpin the continued growth strategy. These contracts will see increased utilisation of the tipper fleet, and revenue and margin growth in the business’ trade waste division. We are in the process of releasing the next three-year strategy which is set to see revenues approach £70m.
