Meet the team: Christina Wardhaugh

Meet the team: Christina Wardhaugh

Here at the NWH Group our family values mean everything to us. It’s about time we introduced you to another member of our team, meet Christina one of our amazing Account Managers. Keep reading to find out more about NWH's secret drummer and her mini dachshund.

Tell us your name, job title and how long you've been with The NWH Group.

Hello! I’m Christina, I am an Account manager and I’ve been with the NWH Group for 3 years (and 2 months).

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy getting out into the countryside or to the coast with my husband and our dog, relaxing with a good book and eating out (now that we finally can again!)

Where are you from and where do you live now?

I am originally from a small town in Northumberland, and currently live around 15 minutes away from there in Morpeth.

What would you recommend doing in your hometown? What’s the highlights?

I’d say our highlights in the North East are the lovely beaches. I’d go as far as saying some of the best in the country. The scenery in and around Northumberland where I live is lovely and you are only a half hour drive away from Newcastle city centre which has some great bars and restaurants along the quayside, there’s a great mix of things to do around here.

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

My husband and I married just before lockdown in 2020 and we are yet to go on our honeymoon which has been rescheduled 4 times now. So I’d say the Maldives, hoping we finally get to go soon.

Tell us a fact about yourself that would surprise people.

I used to play the drums back in school, I’m a bit rusty now mind you.

What was your first job? And your worst job?

My first full time job was working at Newcastle airport. I worked on check in and also as an aircraft dispatcher, both challenging roles in themselves. My worst job was probably waitressing, I was terrible at it as I’m so clumsy.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

I play it pretty safe when it comes to food.

What’s your favourite thing about your role?

I love my role here at NWH as every day is different, I love speaking to all our lovely customers and handling the weird and wonderful requests we often get in the world of waste.

What does a typical workday look like for you and what are your main duties at NWH?

My role as an account manager can vary massively, sometimes I will spend a full day out and about visiting customers, trudging around building sites, doing site audits and general problem solving. Other days I am fully office based, catching up on emails, putting together quotes and working closely with the depots and operations teams to ensure our customers receive the best service possible.

If you could swap roles with anyone at NWH for a day, who would it be and why?

I’d love to be a skip driver for a day, getting to see and experience something completely different. Although I’m not sure Mark and Craig would let me loose in a HGV!

What three words would you use to describe NWH?

Friendly, approachable and family-orientated

Tell us your NWH highlight.

I’d say a big highlight for me was the day we opened our Newcastle depot 3 years ago; I’ve been with the company ever since and it’s amazing to see how far we have progressed and grown in my local area.

Coffee or tea? Milk in first or last?

Coffee, milk first obviously!

What three items would you bring on a desert island?

My miniature dachshund Murphy, music and a pillow.
