NWH and EMR Launch Scottish Sustainability Partnership

The NWH Group and EMR have announced a new strategic partnership in Scotland focused on strengthening legislative understanding, education and environmental compliance, alongside the delivery of commercial waste collection and sustainability services across 20 EMR sites.

The collaboration will see The NWH Group act as EMR commercial waste and sustainability partner, providing waste collection services to 20 Scottish sites while also delivering specialist legislative insight, compliance education and operational support. The partnership is designed to embed practical understanding of environmental legislation within day to day operations, improve consistency in waste management practices and support strong environmental governance across all sites.

As part of the arrangement, The NWH Group will manage commercial waste collection services across EMR’s Scottish site network, ensuring compliant, efficient and reliable removal of waste streams generated through operational activity. This integrated approach allows waste collection, sustainability performance and legislative compliance to be managed in a coordinated way, supporting both operational efficiency and regulatory assurance.

In parallel, The NWH Group will deliver tailored education programmes, legislative updates and hands on compliance support aligned to the specific operational needs of EMR’s Scottish sites. Training and advisory support will focus on helping site teams understand how legislation applies directly to waste handling, storage, segregation and collection, reinforcing good practice at operational level.

Kelly M Lock, Commercial Lead at The NWH Group, said the partnership reflects a practical and integrated approach to waste and compliance management. “Being appointed as EMR’s commercial waste and sustainability partner across 20 Scottish sites is a significant step. This partnership brings together reliable waste collection services with strong legislative understanding and education. By supporting EMR operational teams on the ground, we are helping to improve consistency, reduce risk and deliver a more resilient and sustainable waste management model.”

The partnership comes at a time of increased regulatory focus on waste handling, duty of care and environmental performance within Scotland’s recycling sector. Managing waste collection alongside education and compliance support enables EMR to demonstrate both operational control and staff competence across its site network.

Alistair Little, Country Manager at EMR, said the collaboration strengthens operational delivery as well as governance. “Having The NWH Group as our commercial waste and sustainability partner across 20 sites gives us confidence that waste collection services are being delivered safely, compliantly and consistently. The additional legislative and educational support helps our teams better understand their responsibilities and supports our commitment to high environmental standards across our Scottish operations.”

Both organisations view the partnership as a long term collaboration that supports efficient waste collection, strong compliance performance and continuous improvement as regulatory expectations and operational needs continue to develop across Scotland.
