Assistant Management Accountant, Dalkeith

On our mission to eliminate waste we provide waste collection services to the Leisure, Retail and construction industries. Collecting waste with our fleet of Trade Refuse, Skip, Tipper, Grab and Walking Floor articulated vehicles, transporting materials to our Material recycling facilities where we produce a valuable product such as cardboard, Paper, Washed sands, Biomass for energy and animal bedding.

We are now recruiting for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our finance team based at our Head Office in Dalkeith. The successful applicant is part of the team that is responsible for delivering the timely production of accurate monthly management accounts. This results from an efficient month end close process operating within the framework of the Group accounting policies, procedures and internal controls. To achieve this, large data sets from the various operational and financial systems, are required to be analysed.

This position would suit a motivated individual looking to develop their finance or accountancy based career. Although previous experience in a finance related would be preferred, applications will be considered from those with largely academic related finance knowledge.

The ability to drive is preferred due to the location of our Head Office in Dalkeith.

This position is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week, and paying a salary of £23,000 - £25,000 per annum dependent upon experience.

Main Job Activities of the Assistant Management Accountant:

  • Assisting with preparation and reporting of subsidiary and Group management accounts, including Sales, Costs of Sales, Labour & Fuel, Overheads and Balance Sheet
  • Assisting with closing month end ledgers: cashbook, sales, purchase and nominal ledgers
  • Assisting with the preparation of budgets
  • Assisting with process improvement projects
  • Ensuring the accuracy of posting of Overhead invoices to departments
  • Assisting with other finance departments such as Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger or Credit Control when required on an ad hoc basis
  • Assisting with the auditing of accounts

Skills and knowledge required:

·         Highly proficient in Excel

·         Strong communication skills

·         Team player

·         Ability to present financial information to a variety of audiences in a way which is easily understood by the user

·         Ability to analyse and interpret data and to summarise the relevant points quickly and effectively

·         Ability to deliver responsibilities to strict deadlines with minimum supervision

·         An attitude to continuously improve processes
